The MediaTek Helio A20 brings a new level of impressive capability to highly affordable entry-level smartphones, with performance up 27% in CPU tasks and 123% in games over the previous generation.
This is enabled by pairing a fast quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU operating up to 1.8GHz with an IMG PowerVR GE-class GPU, plus high-speed LPDDR4 memory. Using the highly efficient 12nm production process – a significant upgrade from the previous generation - enables A20 smartphone users more performance and battery life.
Key Features
The A20 brings light edge AI capabilities a wave of new users, with essential features such as Face ID (Face Unlock), Smart Photo Album and advanced single-camera depth of field effects that were previously missing from entry smartphones.
MediaTek NeuroPilot provides developers and device makers full compliance with Android Neural Networks API (Android NNAPI) and they can engage with many common AI frameworks to create apps and OS enhancements.
MediaTek CorePilot technology provides power aware scheduling, thermal management and UX monitoring; assigning the right workload to CPU cores at a specific frequency and voltage, and perfectly matching the required performance with best power efficiency. This affords a sustained high-performance and consistently reliable user-experience.
MediaTek Helio A20 now enables a larger 16MP single camera or 13+5MP dual camera systems to entry smartphones, enhancing the user experience with great pictures and professional-styled photos like Depth of Field (Bokeh) effects for impressive portraits.
The MediaTek Helio A20 improves low-light performance over the previous generation, providing multi-frame noise reduction and a clear-image zoom technology. Furthermore, automatic picture enhancements minimize aliasing, grain, and perform defect/distortion correction, while MediaTek’s Instant Auto Exposure (AE) provides anti-over exposure hardware with accurate point focusing.
MediaTek’s 4G LTE Cat-6 modem provides worldwide carrier support (161 carriers) and dual 4G SIM capacity with VoLTE/ViLTE to affordable Android devices, enabling greater user choice, consistent connection performance and user experience. MediaTek’s TAS 2.0 smart antenna technology uses the best antenna combination to provide optimal signal quality at lowest power use.
Location services are upgraded from the previous generation include multi-GNSS options (GPS, Glonass, Beidou, Galileo) with core-enhancements providing 57% improvement in Hot TTFF, 10% accuracy improvement and up to 24% lower power operation thanks to its dedicated sub-processor.
For the latest smart home devices, Bluetooth 5 powers speeds up to 2X, range up to 4X and broadcast capacity up to 8X over 4.x generation, while the A20 allows BT and Wi-Fi 5 simultaneous co-existence and can provide up to 5X Wi-Fi throughput boost over the previous generation.
An ultra-low power sensor hub provides significant power savings and is ideal for apps that require always-on sensors such as fitness pedometers or voice assistants.
The A20 allows brands to create highly desirable, all-screen smartphones with up to HD+ (1600 x 720) resolution displays and a taller 20:9 ratio that showcases attractive, modern designs.
